Region of Peru celebrates Seventieth Anniversary of MSC Presence in Lima, Peru
LIMA, Peru - On July 31, 2008 the MSC Fathers and MSC Sisters who work in Peru celebrated the 70th anniversary of MSC presence in Lima, Peru. Bishop Norberto Strotmann MSC presided over the solemn mass and Bishop Bernardo Kühnel MSC, Bishop Juan Carlos Vera and two other Bishops assisted the mass. There were seventeen priests who also concelebrated. Some sisters from various congregations and lay people were present too. Before celebrating this historical moment, all MSC gathered at the Seminary for a three-day reflection. During these days they discussed and talked about some topics: theology of Saint Paul, Professional Ethics, the reality of Peru and Religious Life in Latin America and the MSC in Asia.

The MSC Fathers came to Peru on July 23, 1938. It was 24 days later after the arrival of the MSC Sisters in Peru. Frs. Bernardo Sibers and José Peter Meyer were the first MSC Fathers who arrived in Lima, after their travel by ship for one month. On December 15 of the same year, Fr. Enrique Lepper MSC came to support the mission in Peru .

The MSC community was erected canonically as the first community in Peru on February 15, 1940. One year later, when other seven MSC Fathers arrived, the first house was inaugurated and it became the Regional House. Download
