In Yaounde, at the General Conference, we had the opportunity to watch the film of Al Gore "An Inconvenient truth" that raised awareness about climate change and our common responsibility in this area. As MSC we committed ourselves to promote justice, peace and the integrity of creation as a part of our mission and not as a free option.
From 7-18th December we'll have the climate Summit in Copenhagen where the world leaders will be invited to watch another movie to raise still more awareness "The Antarctica Challenge. A Global Warning". (www.youtube.com). It is urgent for us to join the campaign on: www.countdowncopenhagen.org At the beginning of November the World Bank published its "World Development Report 2010: Development and Climate Change". The report stressed that the developping countries are the most vulnerable for the negative consequences of climate change. Recent research established that at a global warming with only 2° * more than 1 billion people would suffer of lack of water * 15 to 30 % of the species risk to disappear * famine will increase in particular in countries with a tropical climate * large parts of the coast countries would immerge Not always White people are "acting". Last October the political advisor of Greenpeace Africa, René Ngongo got the Right Livelihood Award 2009 as a protagonist of forest protection and social justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The price is better known as the 'alternative Nobelprice". René is 48 years old and founded in 1996 the "Organisation Concertée des Ecologistes et Amis de la Nature" (OCEAN) to give the people at grassroot level a voice in his fight against the forest destruction. Climate change was the background for our discussions on food sovereignty and security. At the Synod of Bishops for Africa last October (Rome) attention was paid to these items and also the land grab that is going on in so many countries in the South. Small farmers are loosing their land and become slaves of huge agrobusiness corporations. This is an urgent matter of justice and peace as well. Therefore I invite you urgently to have a look at the following sites on this issues available in English (id=90 and id=93), Spanish (id=92 and id=95) and French: www.grain.org/o/?id=91 www.grain.org/o/?id=94 www.farmlandgrab.org These are the most interesting websites to follow these issues that are a real treath for foodsecurity in many parts of the world and we can not remain indifferent if we want to promote justice and peace. Food is a basic human right. Eradicate poverty starts with feeding the world ! |

For us, a life in union with the Heart of Christ is not just a devotion - it is the very core of our spirituality. the heart of Christ is the source of living water, that is, of the Spirit.
Jules Chevalier (1824-1907) was a man of his time. He was convinced that the Jesus he found in the Gospels was a person of deep compassion and understanding.
Through her union with Jesus, Mary knows the unsearchable riches of his Heart and wants to lead us to him, who is the source of a limitless love that gives birth to a new world.
Fr. Jules wanted to found a missionary Society that would have as its purpose to bring God’s compassionate and merciful love to human beings as the remedy for the evils that afflicted society.
