Fr. Laurentius Jotten MSC passed away on December 9, 2009
JAKARTA, Indonesia - Fr. Laurentius Jotten MSC belongs to the Indonesian Province. He passed away on Wednesday Morning (7.15 am), December 9, 2009 at Saint Carolus Hospital in Jakarta – Indonesia. His funeral was on December 11, 2009, at Santiego Hills, Jakarta.

Fr. Lau was born in Spaubeek – Limburg, the Diocese of Roermond – Netherlands on August 10, 1928. One of his blood brothers also an MSC Priest, Fr. Joos Jotten MSC who lives in Tilburg – Netherlands. Fr. Lau made his first vows on September 21st, 1948 and was ordained to the priesthood on September 6th, 1953.

He came to work as a missionary in Archdiocese of Merauke – West Papua in 1955. At that time West Papua was still occupied by Dutch Government. Fr. Lau was one of pioneers who worked and opened mission in Boven Digoel, especially Getentiri parish. In 1963 he was appointed to the MSC Provincialate in Jakarta. Two years later he was appointed as a provincial procurator and bursar till 1983. Beside his work as procurator and bursar, he was also one of the provincial assistants for some years. As a procurator he provided things (money and logistics) for missionaries in mission. At that time the MSC-s worked in the Archdiocese of Merauke – West Papua, Diocese of Amboina – Moluccas Islands, Diocese of Manado – North Sulawesi and Diocese of Purwokerto – Central Java. In Jakarta he was faithful to say Sunday and daily masses in “Maria Bunda Pengatara Parish”.

Fr. Lau has finished the race in the world and now gains eternal crown. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Tim 4: 7). Good bye Fr. Lau. Many thanks for many things you have done for the MSC, especially for your great contributions to develop the Archdiocese of Merauke and other dioceses served by the MSC. Fr. Lau has a great contribution in founding and developing the MSC Indonesian Province. Now you are worth to receive eternal happened from the Lord whom you have served.
