Father Edward Martin MSC passes away in Tarawa, Kiribati
TARAWA, Kiribati - Father Edward Martin MSC died around 11.40 pm on April 15, at the Public Hospital in Tarawa, Kiribati. Due to his sickness Father Martin was confined to a wheel chair for the last few years. However, he continued to celebrate Eucharist in the Teaoraereke Chapel for the community and others. He had a great devotion to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart. Every evening he use to gather the community especially the Aspirants to pray the Rosary in front of the statue of Our Lady at the entrance of Teaoraereke House.   
 
Fr Martin was born in the Island of Maiana, Kiribati on February 27, 1929. He joined the Diocese of Tarawa and did his priestly studies in New Zealand. He was ordained a priest on April 26, 1964. However, few years later he decided to become an MSC and completed his Novitiate in France and was professed in the Congregation on February 02, 1966. Father Martin was buried at Teaoraereke on April 17.
